Step into the detective’s workshop and solve the mystery of the perfect basket! In this hands-on investigation, you’ll uncover the secrets behind creating a 10" x 10" x 6" basket with a solid woven base — a structure so sturdy it demands precise “chicken-feeting” of the fillers.
As any good sleuth knows, the details matter. You’ll learn how to identify the right and wrong sides of the reed (a clue that often hides in plain sight!), master the art of twining, and practice starting and stopping your weave with care and cunning. The rim and lashing will be applied with deliberate precision, locking your evidence securely into place.
Shaping will be a key element of our investigation, ensuring your basket’s lid fits as neatly as the solution to a well-constructed mystery. Once the case is nearly closed, we’ll add a lid with a clever decorative cutout — the perfect design for dispensing multiple skeins of yarn with ease.
By the end of class, you’ll have cracked the code of form and function, leaving with a beautiful handmade basket — and the satisfaction of a mystery well solved.
