Step back in time and uncover the secrets of one of humanity’s oldest textile mysteries — the art of twining. In this hands-on investigation, you’ll learn how to create a beautiful rag rug or placemat without the cost or complication of a floor loom. Like a clever detective repurposing old clues, you’ll give new life to leftover scraps of fabric, worn-out jeans, or even that bed sheet with the mysterious hole!
Twining is an ancient craft nearly unchanged through the centuries and in this class, you’ll master its timeless rhythm. As you work, you’ll discover how simple twists and turns can form patterns both sturdy and elegant.
By the end of our inquiry, you’ll have completed a small sample, perfect for use as a hot pad or table adornment and gained the skills to continue your twining adventures at home. And the loom is for you to keep to continue your investigations when you get home.
Join us for this charming case in creative recycling, where every strand tells a story and every twist brings you closer to the truth of timeless craftsmanship.
