Have you been circling the idea of spinning like an unsolved case? Curious about making exactly the yarn you want, yet hesitant to commit to a full-sized wheel? Perhaps the clues point to aching knees, reluctant feet, or the simple mystery of where on earth would I put a wheel anyway? Fear not, Holmes himself would advise gathering evidence before drawing conclusions.

In this investigative, hands-on class, we’ll examine the curious world of e-spinners: compact, tabletop-friendly, quietly powerful machines that eliminate treadling altogether. You’ll have the opportunity to test-drive several different models, compare their quirks and capabilities, and uncover how they differ from one another, and from traditional analog wheels.

As we follow the trail, students will practice essential spinning skills while focusing on process over product. This is not about rushing to a finished skein; it’s about observation, experimentation, and deduction. By the end of the session, beginner spinners should have a clear sense of whether e-spinning is their ideal solution and a solid understanding of how these clever devices work.

All tools and materials are provided, no need to bring anything but your curiosity, a willingness to learn, and a bit of patience for both the process and yourself. No previous spinning experience is required; this class is specifically designed for those at the very start of their spinning journey.

Students should have enough manual dexterity to hold and draft wool roving and be able to focus for the duration of the class.

After all, as any good detective knows: once the evidence is laid out, the conclusion becomes elementary.
