Afterthought heels are one of the most intimidating sock knitting techniques, but the truth is that they are far simpler than you imagine. In this workshop, you’ll learn two methods for knitting an afterthought heel: the waste yarn method and a true afterthought heel, where you cut your sock open – Eek!

Skill Prerequisite: Advanced beginner, preferably has experience knitting socks or on double-pointed needles or magic loop.

Ages: 13+

Supplies: Included in Class Cost: Sock Pattern

Additional Supplies Needed:

  • Fingering Weight Yarn; preferably nylon blend or high twist wool
  • 2.25mm (US 1) to 3.00mm (US 2.5) Knitting Needles

Homework: Students will be given a sock pattern to follow at least two weeks prior to the start of class. The sock doesn’t need to be complete, and late sign-ups will be given a swatch pattern to complete before the start of class.
